We are seeking an experienced Interim Revenue Cycle Director to provide strategic leadership, hands–on operational support, and immediate stabilization of the revenue cycle function. This leader must bring both the vision and sophistication to guide the RCM strategy at an executive level, while also being fully capable of rolling up their sleeves to train staff, correct workflows, and personally perform revenue cycle tasks when needed. A key priority for this engagement is addressing and correcting issues stemming from an unthorough Epic conversion, ensuring data integrity, workflow optimization, and accurate, timely revenue capture. This role is ideal for a seasoned RCM leader who thrives in a rural hospital environment, communicates clearly, and can quickly build trust with a small team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide strategic oversight of all Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) functions, including patient access, billing, coding, charge capture, denials, AR management, and reimbursement.
- Assess current RCM operations and implement immediate improvements to stabilize performance.
- Lead the clean–up and correction of Epic conversion issues, including workflows, build, reporting, and staff utilization.
- Train, mentor, and upskill a small RCM team, ensuring staff understand how to perform their work accurately and efficiently.
- Step in to perform hands–on RCM tasks when necessary, modeling best practices and ensuring continuity of operations.
- Collaborate with hospital leadership to align revenue cycle strategy with organizational goals.
- Establish and monitor KPIs, dashboards, and reporting to track progress and identify gaps.
- Strengthen processes related to denials, AR follow–up, charge capture, and documentation accuracy.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CFO, CEO, and leadership team, providing clear communication and actionable recommendations.• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and payer regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years of progressive experience in hospital Revenue Cycle Management, including leadership roles.
- Prior experience in a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to train, coach, and elevate staff performance in small-team environments.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to diagnose root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
- Hands-on operational capability — willing and able to perform billing, coding, AR follow-up, and other tasks when needed.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build trust quickly.
- Experience in interim, turnaround, or consulting roles is a plus.
